Dr. Timothy Mullican, DVM
As Senior Vice President, Zoological Operations, Dr. Timothy Mullican, DVM, oversees the daily activities of all animal related departments including the animal commissary, water quality lab, life support systems, dive operations and the dive immersion program. He also serves as liaison for interactions with other departments within the Aquarium such as marketing, public relations and guest programs.
Mullican graduated from the University of Dayton with a bachelor’s degree in biology and continued his education at Purdue University, where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. During his time in school, he also studied at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, to receive his AQUAVET certification.
Mullican is veteran of a wide variety of veterinary and business positions over his 25 year career.
His public aquarium experience began in 1997 at the Newport Aquarium in Newport, Kentucky where he served as consulting veterinarian. Maintaining veterinary oversight, he was tabbed as Executive Director in 2002, a position he held until 2005. He then served as a consultant for developer Colliers International on the never built Puerto Rico National Aquarium project.
His research interest is giant manta rays and he holds the position of Adjunct Professor at University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
