Teacher. Firefighter. Astronaut. These are a few of the dream jobs kids want to have when they grow up. For Georgia Aquarium FINtastic fan, Lilly Kate, she has a dream to be a marine biologist and one day work with California sea lions. This past November, Georgia Aquarium received a Facebook message from Lilly Kate’s mom, Tleshia, showing off her recent Halloween costume – a Georgia Aquarium sea lion trainer! Her outfit was complete with Georgia Aquarium shirt, nametag and plush sea lion, Nav, named after one of the Aquarium’s rescued resident sea lions. As Aquarium members, Lilly Kate and her mom visited prior to Halloween to get ideas for her costume, and even left a note for one our sea lion trainers telling about her love for sea lions and the Aquarium.
In December, Lilly Kate and her parents visited Georgia Aquarium for what Lilly Kate thought was a normal visit. Little did she know, there was a big surprise in store for her! See her dream day at Georgia Aquarium below:
The day was also special for Lilly Kate’s parents. “As her mom, she has loved marine life since she was in kindergarten when she came on a field trip to Georgia Aquarium. Being able to be a part of fostering that love, and being able to come here and do that is really special,” said Tleshia.
“I want to work with marine life to make the world a better place,” said Lilly Kate about her dream to one day be a sea lion trainer.
We were thrilled to give Lilly Kate this experience and witness first-hand the passion she has for marine life, and look forward to seeing her back at the Aquarium – maybe one day as a volunteer or part of our sea lion team!
