ATLANTA (May 23, 2007) – The Georgia Aquarium celebrated its five-millionth guest today, kicking off a weekend of downtown Atlanta festivities. Pemberton Place® will celebrate the Georgia Aquarium’s five-millionth guest on the facility’s 18-month anniversary and welcome a new addition to downtown Atlanta’s tourism family with the grand opening of the NEW World of Coca-Cola®.
The lucky five-millionth guests, Amy Warner and Dawn Zimmerman, of Erie, Pa., were greeted by Georgia Aquarium benefactor Bernie Marcus, President and Executive Director Jeff Swanagan and Aquarium staff members. Warner and Zimmerman were visiting the Aquarium while in Atlanta for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition. They received annual passes from the Aquarium and prizes from Aquarium partners AirTran Airways®, Georgia Pacific® and The Home Depot®. To commemorate the occasion, the Georgia Aquarium served cake and Coca-Cola® products during the ceremony and offered $0.50 tickets to “Deepo’s Undersea 3D Wondershow” in their 4D Theater.
“Celebrating our five-millionth guest today on our 18-month anniversary proves we're offering new guests and our annual pass holders the right mix of education and entertainment,” said Georgia Aquarium benefactor Bernie Marcus. “Through collaboration with local facilities like Zoo Atlanta and international partnerships with Taiwan, Mexico and South Africa, we are able to promote conservation and bring attention to Atlanta as a top leisure destination.”
The downtown Atlanta tourism industry is experiencing increases, and the Georgia Aquarium intends to maintain its leadership role, continuing to perfect their customer-focused approach and setting the pace for other downtown Atlanta attractions. Such commitment has earned the Aquarium several awards over the last 18 months, including TEA’s 13th Annual THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement, Computerworld’s 2007 Premier 100 Best in Class Award for IT Leader and The Sunday Paper Readers’ Choice Awards ’07 for Best Local Attraction.
