ATLANTA (March 31, 2016) - Georgia Aquarium will officially premiere two highly anticipated additions today. The new sea lion gallery, SunTrust Pier 225 and presentation, Sea Lions: Under the Boardwalk, and all-new dolphin presentation, AT&T Dolphin Celebration, are both enhancements in commemoration of the Aquarium’s 10th anniversary year.
“We are so excited to officially open our new sea lion gallery and premiere our new dolphin presentation to the public today,” said chief operating officer and executive vice president of Georgia Aquarium, Joe Handy. “We’re celebrating not only the past ten years and the amazing achievements that we have accomplished, but the next ten years and all that lies ahead. We hope everyone comes out and is inspired by all the new and wonderful things at Georgia Aquarium this year.”
Guests can expect to see California sea lions in an intimate setting in SunTrust Pier 225, while learning more about these social marine mammals as their trainers interact with them. This new exhibit will educate guests on the dangers they face in the wild and key environmental factors that impact them. Georgia Aquarium currently has four sea lions that were rescued from last year’s Unusual Mortality Event (UME), where record numbers of sea lion pups are stranding on California beaches in search of food. Guests can expect to see these young sea lions and adult sea lions during Under the Boardwalk.
The AT&T Dolphin Celebration presentation is a high energy, fun, and exciting experience that celebrates the beauty, grace, athleticism, and intelligence of bottlenose dolphins. While showing the relationships they create with their trainers, guests will learn more about bottlenose dolphins through a variety of new behaviors. This presentation replaces the original AT&T Dolphin Tales show that premiered in 2011.
In addition to these new presentations opening on Thursday, several new touch pools, a completely renovated 4D Funbelievable Theater, and upgrades to Aquanaut Adventure will launch today.
Sea Lions: Under the Boardwalk premieres with its first presentation at 11 a.m. and additional times at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. today. AT&T Dolphin Celebration premieres with its first presentation at 11:30 a.m. and additional times at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. Times vary by day.
