“Aqua Vino has become one of Georgia Aquarium’s largest and most anticipated fundraising events over the past 11 years. We are excited to provide guests with a fun and engaging experience in a sophisticated and elegant atmosphere, all while being able to enjoy amazing food, wine and aquatic animals,” said Kristie Ray, director of marketing and promotions at Georgia Aquarium.
This year’s event will celebrate the incredible California sea lion, featured in the Aquarium’s newest gallery, SunTrust Pier 225. California sea lions have been affected by an unusual mortality event (UME) off the California coast, causing sea lion pups to become stranded on beaches. In August of 2015 Georgia Aquarium welcomed two sea lions pups, Jupiter and Neptune, that were deemed non-releasable by the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to their forever home at Georgia Aquarium, where they joined other rescued sea lions. They are now a part of the Under the Boardwalk presentation, and help to educate guests about the challenges that California sea lions face.
“We were excited to open the new SunTrust Pier 225 gallery earlier this year as a part of our tenth anniversary celebration year, and to be able to provide guests with the experience of learning more about California sea lions. They are able to serve as ambassadors for their species and we hope to inspire guests to help protect them in our ocean when they leave the Aquarium,” said Joe Handy, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Georgia Aquarium.
Tickets are currently on sale. Grand Tasting tickets are $95 and VIP Tasting tickets are $250. Event attendees must be 21 years of age. To purchase tickets or learn more about Georgia Aquarium’s Aqua Vino visit www.georgiaaquairum.org/AquaVino.
