The world's largest fish deserves a big celebration! Join Georgia Aquarium on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017 to have a whale (shark) of a good time for International Whale Shark Day!
Georgia Aquarium is the only aquarium in North America to house whale sharks, the largest fish in the world, and is a leader in spreading awareness, researching, and initiating conservation efforts for this species. Georgia Aquarium is home to four whale sharks, ranging from 18 to 22 feet long, who act as ambassadors for whale sharks around the world.
To celebrate these gentle giants, Georgia Aquarium has an exciting day filled with educational and entertaining activities for all ages. Activities will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and include:
- A narrated whale shark feed at the large viewing window in Ocean Voyager Built by the Home Depot at 10:30 a.m.
- Whale Shark Plinko Trivia Game
- Pin the Satellite Tag on the Whale Shark
- How your Thumbprint is like a Whale Shark’s Spots
- Earth pledge bookmarks
- Photo opportunities with Domino, our whale shark mascot
Don't forget to stop by Owen's Lemonade Stand in the Atrium from noon to 2 p.m.! Whale shark fan, Owen, will bringing his lemonade stand from California to Atlanta to help raise awareness for whale sharks. All profits will be donated to the Marine Megafauna Foundation for whale shark research and conservation efforts.
