MARINELAND, FLA. (November 12, 2015) Marineland Dolphin Adventure announced today that the name of its newest male dolphin calf is Boomer.

“The dolphin calf and his mom, Shaka, have been thriving since the calf’s arrival in September. The staff and volunteers have grown very fond of the newest addition to the Marineland Dolphin Adventure family,” said Kurt Allen, general manager of Marineland Dolphin Adventure. We are excited to share this experience and announce the name to the public.”

Boomer joins a family of dolphins that are part of Marineland Dolphin Adventure’s prestigious breeding program, which is the longest-standing dolphin breeding program of any zoological facility. The dolphins at Marineland receive exceptional care from a dedicated team of animal care and training specialists, and they are an integral part of Georgia Aquarium, Inc.’s mission to preserve dolphins and other aquatic species.

Boomer, born Sept. 2, has been thriving and meeting important development milestones. He is playful and has a natural sense of curiosity for his surroundings, and interacting with staff.

The name Boomer was chosen by Marineland staff through an internal naming contest. Boomer was selected appropriately as the calf was born during a Floridian thunderstorm.

The public is invited to visit Marineland Dolphin Adventure on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Fall Family Fun Day to see Boomer and enjoy a day of family-friendly activities and entertainment with Marineland’s resident dolphins. Guests can also visit another new addition to Marineland Dolphin Adventure during their visit, a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle named Pokey. Pokey is an adult male sea turtle that can be seen in the Neptune Park area.

Music will be provided by Sam Williams Experiment and food will be provided by Sporks Food Truck. There will also be face painting for kids, games, dolphin presentations and silent auctions. General admission will be a special price of $7.50, and children three and under receive free admission. Fall Family Fun Day tickets can be purchased online at www.marineland.net.

Fall Family Fun Day is being held in conjunction with the Town of Marineland’s 75th anniversary celebration weekend. Events will be taking place all weekend beginning Friday, Nov. 13. Festivities will kick off across from Marineland, with an outdoor screening of Revenge of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, which was filmed at Marineland in 1955.
