ATLANTA (June 15, 2018) – Every day we see images of plastic-filled oceans and beaches on social media, television and the news. Many of us wonder how to reduce our impact on the environment and plastic waste. Good news! Reducing plastic water bottle usage is a great step in the right direction. Georgia Aquarium and Elkay® have partnered together to install 16 Elkay ezH20® bottle filling stations throughout the Aquarium in an effort to contribute less plastic to a worldwide epidemic. On average, an American will discard 185 lbs.- of plastic a year, leading to an alarming 8 million tons of plastic that ends up in the ocean.
Alongside Elkay®, Georgia Aquarium installed bottle filling stations in an attempt to cut down on plastic water bottle usage among staff, volunteers and guests. A non-profit organization, Georgia Aquarium is dedicated to inspiring awareness and preservation of our ocean and aquatic animals. Part of that mission is educating guests while inspiring them to take part in conservation efforts.

“Providing these Elkay® bottle filling stations is not only a great addition to Georgia Aquarium for our guests, but also highlights both the Aquarium and Elkay’s® commitment to sustainability,” said senior director of sponsorships and corporate partnerships, Hiroshi Okuda.
Georgia Aquarium and Elkay® formalized their partnership in February of 2018. Elkay’s® innovative bottle filling stations demonstrate a commitment to providing cleaner, healthier water and to sustainability. They provide a rapid fill of drinking water to minimize plastic bottle waste in the environment. The stations are placed strategically throughout Georgia Aquarium to better allow guests the ability to refill their personal water bottles with ease. Within the first 4 months after installation of the Elkay® bottle filling stations, Georgia Aquarium has been successful in saving the equivalent of more than 30,000 20 oz. plastic bottles from waste! Through this partnership, we hope to encourage corporations, businesses, attractions and our guests to become more aware of their own plastic bottle use.
“Elkay® is thrilled to have partnered with Georgia Aquarium to promote their mission to educate families on water conservation and protecting our waterways from plastics. At Elkay®, we are committed to providing products that deliver fresh, clean water, AND to providing knowledge and education on water-related topics to the communities we serve,” said Molly Pajauskas, Marketing Director, Plumbing for Elkay®.
